Radial Variation of Functions in Besov Spaces

Abstract This paper considers the radial variation function F (r, t) of an analytic function f(z) on the disc D. We examine F (r, t) when f belongs to a Besov space Apq and look for ways in which F imitates the behaviour of f . Regarded as a function of position (r, t) in D, we show that F obeys a certain integral growth condition which is the real variable analogue of that satisfied by f . We ...

Ramanujan’s Radial Limits

Ramanujan’s famous deathbed letter to G. H. Hardy concerns the asymptotic properties of modular forms and his so-called mock theta functions. For his mock theta function f(q), he asserts, as q approaches an even order 2k root of unity, that we have f(q)− (−1)(1− q)(1− q)(1− q) · · · ` 1− 2q + 2q − · · · ́ = O(1). We give two proofs of this claim by offering exact formulas for these limiting valu...

Klauder ’ s coherent states for the radial Coulomb problem in a uniformly curved space and their flat - space limits

First a set of coherent statesá la Klauder is formally constructed for the Coulomb problem in a curved space of constant positive curvature. Then the flat-space limit is taken to reduce the set for the radial Coulomb problem to a set of hydrogen atom coherent states corresponding to both the discrete and the continuous portions of the spectrum for a fixed ℓ sector.

Discretization-invariant Bayesian Inversion and Besov Space Priors

Bayesian solution of an inverse problem for indirect measurement M = AU + E is considered, where U is a function on a domain of R. Here A is a smoothing linear operator and E is Gaussian white noise. The data is a realization mk of the random variable Mk = PkAU + PkE, where Pk is a linear, finite dimensional operator related to measurement device. To allow computerized inversion, the unknown is...

Profile decompositions for critical Lebesgue and Besov space embeddings

Profile decompositions for “critical” Sobolev-type embeddings are established, allowing one to regain some compactness despite the non-compact nature of the embeddings. Such decompositions have wide applications to the regularity theory of nonlinear partial differential equations, and have typically been established for spaces with Hilbert structure. Following the method of S. Jaffard, we treat...
